This switch does two jobs from one housing: it tells the vehicle which range the transmission is in, and it feeds the reverse lamp circuit. A failed switch is why a truck will crank in neutral but not park, or why the reverse lights quit while everything else works. It threads into the transmission case, so fluid loss is normal during replacement.
