The NV246 is an active on demand case with a clutch pack inside, which means the fluid is doing more than lubricating: it sets how that clutch engages. This is why the case calls out a specific lubricant rather than generic gear oil, and why using the wrong fluid here is a well known cause of shudder and premature chain wear.
